Dear church family
August can be an expensive month with holidays, outings, new school uniforms, meeting up with friends not to mention birthdays and other celebrations. The list can be overwhelming and pinch points like this can sometimes overshadow the joy. Some may be tempted to close their eyes and whip out the plastic with the thought that 'I'll deal with the consequences later'. For others, August can be a lonely month when families go on holiday and some may be left behind. This is why we had 'Holiday at Home' in August, to help combat the loneliness for at least a small while. Financial worry and loneliness are not unique to our generation and Jesus addressed these in Matthew 6:25-34 and Luke 12:22-34. "Consider the Ravens: they do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than the birds!'
Jesus didn't tell them to sit back and expect the answers to fall in their laps. He told them and us to 'seek his kingdom, and all these things will be given you as well'. The antidote to worry and struggle is to seek God in all things. To spend time with him, to seek his counsel. To seek to grow more like him by seeking him in prayer and allowing him to change us from the inside. Yes, we will still have challenges, but they cease to be insurmountable when we have our hand firmly held in that of Jesus. He is available to all – he does not have favourites.
And what of those who may feel abandoned, forgotten and surplus to requirements…? Well Jesus also said this,
"Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. Indeed the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows."
Seek the Kingdom of God – sit in His presence and bask in his love. I do pray that you have had time to enjoy some of the Selah space this summer whether you have been chasing around after children or enjoying a quieter pace of life. Whatever season of life you find yourself in, God's love is everlasting and he continually delights in you with singing (Zephaniah 3:17).
Much love
Paula x
