Stepping forward together

Dear church family

What a great members meeting we had at Ashford last night! It was so good to see friends from Finberry and hear news of how God is moving so wonderfully there. We also voted as to whether to amalgamate with Brabourne and we had an overwhelmingly positive affirmation to go ahead. Brabourne had their meeting last Sunday morning and they too affirmed the amalgamation. This means we can instruct the solicitors to finalise the agreement.

We are in exciting times and we give thanks to God for leading us to come together to expand his Kingdom work in Ashford, Brabourne, Finberry and wherever he takes us next. We long to see the good news of Jesus reaching as many people as possible so that they too can experience the freedom from sin offered through his sacrifice and the indescribable joy and inner peace available through a personal relationship with him.

It is so delightfully reassuring when we receive confirmation that we are hearing from God. Last night I opened the meeting with Ephesians 4:1-6 only to find that Katie also referenced that same passage, although we had not spoken to each other about it! The passage says:

I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. 2 Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. 3 Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. 4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6 one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.

This passage needs to be tattooed on our hearts and is my prayer for us all this week. May we always be gentle with each other remembering that if I am in God and you are in God (John 17:21), then that means we are one together in God. Even when we disagree or let each other down, this oneness remains true. Paul emphasised that there is only one body which is the global church just as there is one God that we worship together.

So as we step forward together, one family on three sites, may we always be of one heart as we seek to follow Jesus, remembering that it is His church that we are a small part of. May we make it a priority to continue growing deeper in him and choose to see the best in each other.
