Trust in the Lord
Dear church family
'Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.'
-Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in someone is confident reliance that they will do what they say, even when you can't fully see or prove the outcome yet. This proverb encourages us to trust in the Lord with all our hearts. However, trust can be hard for those who have been let down - even if it's not God who has not done the letting down. I also love that this proverb encourages us not to lean on our own understanding. In my own walk with Jesus, I have found that sometimes I have felt let down by God, not because He has let me down, but I had a certain expectation of how I wanted God to do something which was not how He did it. We are encouraged to trust God even if what He does doesn't make sense or seem right to our human understanding.
We are told in the Bible that God is faithful, He is unchanging, that in His very nature He is trustworthy. When we choose to place absolute trust in God, we know that it is not misplaced. God's love will never fail us but sometimes our own understanding does fail us. We can all admit that there have been many occasions where we have got it wrong – whether that is in the workplace, school, with relationships and so on. God doesn't get it wrong ever! He is a perfect and holy God, so when we place our trust in Him we can trust that He does not ever make mistakes like we do.
The proverb then tells us to submit all our ways to Him and He will make our path straight. Something I regularly am reminded of it how much God cares about the little decisions as well as the big ones. We each have things we go to God with and things we don't either because we forget or don't think we need to pray about it. When we choose to include God in ALL our decision making we know He will help guide us on the right path where sometimes our decisions can lead us down the wrong paths.
I encourage you, if you don't already, to include God in ALL your decision making this week (or as many decisions as you remember to include God) and see what a difference it makes.
Lots of love,
Katie
