Remembrance Sunday
Dear church family,
'Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall;
he lifts his voice, the earth melts.' Psalm 46:6
This Sunday, as in previous years, we will be marking Remembrance Sunday by joining in the 2 minute's silence at 11am. As we remember those affected by wars the world over, I am reminded of Jesus' words recorded in Matthew 24:6-8:
'You will hear of wars and rumours of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth-pains.'
This week we take time to remember all those affected by war. Many serving their country valiantly and if they return, are often left struggling with life changing effects, whether that be physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually or all of the above. So many families changed forever, but we are called to hold on, to not be afraid. We have a sure hope that there will come a time when our God will 'make wars cease to the ends of the earth', breaking the bow and shattering the spear (Psalm 46:9). There will be a time when 'He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away' (Rev. 21:4). Even as we stand to honour those who have given so much, we remember that Jesus understands, because he too gave his life to save all of us.
Psalm 46 reminds us that even in the midst of the turmoil and chaos, we are called to 'Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.' and we all say Amen to that!
May you know an extra portion of blessing and peace if you have personally been affected by active service. Please reach out if you would like to talk and receive prayer.
Hope to see you Sunday,
Paula x
