(Acts 13:3)

We are in the countdown to New Wells Finberry being launched in just two Sundays' time! This site being launched is such a testament to God's kindness, provision and faithfulness. Our church has had a sense of calling to plant a church in Finberry for a very long time, it was a vision given and prayed into for many years and now we are stepping into that call. It hasn't always been easy waiting for a door to open, but God's timing is always perfect, and we are so excited and expectant to see what God is going to do in and through New Wells Finberry.

On Sunday we are having a sending service where we are going to lay hands and pray for the team that are going. This is something we see modelled by the early church. At the start of Acts 13, it says that as they worshipped and fasted together the Holy Spirit told them to set apart Barnabus and Saul for the work that God had called them to. They then laid hands and prayed for them before sending them off. Although we are sad that a part of our family will now be meeting somewhere else on a Sunday morning, we want to send them with our biggest blessing.

Barnabus and Saul were sent off but they never stopped being part of the wider community of the early church. In the same way, we are sending off the Finberry team, but they will not stop being part of our church family. We may not see each other on a Sunday morning but there are other days in the week we can see them, check in on them and see how we can be praying for and blessing them moving forward. In the meantime, let us not cease praying for our church family as a whole but particularly for Finberry.

Lots of love,

Katie ?

SUNDAY GATHERING | 10:30AM
Join us in person this Sunday as we begin continue our Easter sermon series 'Set Free' or join us online: https://youtu.be/LHoVrWc7g10

FINBERRY LAUNCH AND TEAM MEAL
Team Meal 12th April | Finberry Launch 19th April
We're excited to launch into Finberry on Sunday 19th April! When the women went to the tomb the angels told them:

'Why do you look for the living among the dead? 6 He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: "The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again."' (Luke 24:5b-7)

On Maundy Thursday we remember the last meal Jesus had with His disciples where they broke bread and shared wine being told to do the same in remembrance of Him. The disciples were then asked to watch and pray as Jesus went into the garden of Gethsemane asking God to take the cup of suffering away from him. From 7pm until midnight we will be watching, praying and worshipping seeing through until midnight. We'd love you to join with us and fast on Maundy Thursday.

On Good Friday, we remember the cross. We remember this great act of love where Jesus was willing to take on our sin, our shame, our separation, so that we can stand forgiven and free. Jesus didn't die so we can live slightly improved lives – He died so we could be made new and that there no longer was a separation between us and God.
Easter morning shouts the truth that darkness does not have the final say. The tomb is empty. Death has been defeated. Hope has been resurrected. Wherever things may look broken, buried, or beyond repair in your life – Easter reminds us that God's power to bring life out of death is not just historic, it's present!

As we celebrate Easter as a family may we remember that Jesus is alive! We are set free! Let us therefore walk in that freedom He paid for with His life. Let us receive the love demonstrated on that cross and worship our King together!

Lots of love,

Katie

SUNDAY GATHERING | 10:30AM
Join us in person this Sunday as we begin continue our Easter sermon series 'Set Free' or join us online: https://youtu.be/LXhAbflHjgg

FINBERRY LAUNCH AND TEAM MEAL
Team Meal 12th April | Finberry Launch 19th April
We're excited to launch into Finberry on Sunday 19th April! As a young man, he was taken to Ireland as a slave, where he spent years in hardship. Yet it was in that place that he encountered God in a real personal way.

What's even more remarkable is that, after escaping and returning home, Patrick chose to go back to Ireland – not with resentment, but with a heart full of compassion, carrying the message of Jesus to the very people and place that had once caused him pain.

His story challenges and encourages us today. It reminds us that God can meet us in the hardest seasons, that forgiveness is possible even when it feels costly, and that following Jesus often means stepping out in courage and obedience. Patrick didn't have it all figured out – he simply said yes to God.

As we reflect on his life, may we be people who trust in God in every season, who forgive as we've been forgiven, and who are willing to go where he leads us.

'Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you' Ephesians 4 v 32

Le grá ar fad,

Kelly

SUNDAY GATHERING | 10:30AM
Join us in person this Sunday as we begin our Easter sermon series 'Set Free' or join us online: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HNDNi8aKyE8

CHURCH MEETING - THIS SUNDAY
Sunday 22nd March | 12:30pm | New Wells Ashford or Zoom
Join us THIS Sunday after the service for a short but important church family meeting—updates on finances, Finberry, and what's ahead...
More info / zoom link here: https://newwells.churchsuite.com/events/hq8tovov

FINBERRY FOCUS - LAUNCH TEAM MEETING THIS SUNDAY ?
Meeting straight after whole church meeting at New Wells Ashford
The focus of this meeting is hospitality, building community, sharing about Jesus and sharing your testimony... and we're ordering pizza in! ?

We're excited to launch into Finberry on Sunday 19th April, and we're building the launch team now as preparations continue behind the scenes. When ministry got difficult, I would daydream about this coffee shop. I would plan the décor, the feel of the shop, think about the potential of hosting acoustic worship nights and alpha and all sorts. I also thought about the name… My little imaginary coffee shop would be called 'He brews' which would be ironic because it would be a female owned coffee shop, Hebrews is a book in the Bible and coffee is of course brewed. I always enjoy the joke, 'How does Jesus make his coffee? … Hebrews it.' So, all in all, I was quite proud of coming up with this name for my imaginary coffee shop.

The book of Hebrews is an incredible book. In my Bible reading plan I am currently reading Hebrews which I find very exciting, and its teachings are challenging and encouraging me in my own journey. Yesterday I was reading chapter 4 and verses 12-13 struck me.
'For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.'

Now at first glance this is quite an intense passage, and I recognise I'm someone that quite enjoys the more intense stories and passages. What struck me was the power that comes from the word of God. His word (the Bible) is alive and active; it is sharp and cuts through a lot of our rubbish. Sometimes it holds up a mirror to our own failings, sin and imperfections which can be hard to face. However, when a mirror is held up to our faces, when our motives and desires are laid bare before God, when His Spirit convicts us of wrong or our failings, it is an opportunity for us to be met with mercy and grace. Sometimes the God's word cuts us like a sword when we have done wrong because it is an opportunity for us to repent, receive grace and be made whole. God cares so much about us that He does not want us to stay in our brokenness, but His desire is for us to be whole, righteous, and holy. He sees it all anyway, he sees our motives, our desires, our failings, every single part of us including the parts we would rather hide from and His declaration in His word is that we are His beloved, children and chosen ones. How amazing is that!

Lots of love,

Katie

SUNDAY GATHERING | 10:30AM
Join us in person this Sunday as we continue our series 'Apprentices of the Kingdom' or join us online: https://youtu.be/JqRcq3zWjZw

BAPTISM COURSE - THIS WEEK
Starting Tuesday 10th March | 7:30pm | On Zoom
This is a 3 week course for anyone who has not yet been baptised but is thinking about it or just wants to find out more about what it is or means.

Sign up here https://newwells.churchsuite.com/events/qbxnv80g
or please email Katie katie.moyles@newwells.church if you would like more information

Course dates
Tuesday 10th March
Sunday 15th March
Sunday 22nd March

FINBERRY FOCUS - LAUNCH TEAM MEETING THIS SUNDAY
Launch team meeting | Sunday 8th March | 3pm-5pm
Are you a planter or a sender? If you missed Mark's email "Everyone's Involved" earlier this week, please take a look...

We're excited to launch into Finberry on Sunday 19th April, and we're building the launch team now as preparations continue behind the scenes. Last year significant revisions were made to laws around abortion in the same week that the so called 'Assisted Dying' bill passed it's third reading in parliament. Why should this concern us?

Life is a gift from God. If you have ever heard someone speaking about the 'sanctity of life', you might have wondered what this means. Genesis 1:28 tells us that all people are made in the image of God. We are created with value, purpose and personhood, and this is rooted in who God is and what he says about us. The value of human life is what motivates us to treat all people with dignity and respect, to care for the most vulnerable - the Bible often talks about orphans, widows and foreigners in the land, to honour and look after the elderly in our society, to strive for a society that offers equal treatment to those living with disabilities, to provide for those who cannot provide for themselves, to love all people as Jesus loves them (even our enemies!).

Our laws and society in the West has been built on this Christian belief. It is worth noting this has not been the norm throughout the world and throughout history and many other civilisations have had different values, leading to practices we would rightly see as wrong. For example, in some Arctic communities, elderly individuals who could no longer contribute to the group or people suffering with infirmities were left behind in remote locations to freeze or die of starvation. In Roman society, the practice of exposure was a widely accepted practice where unwanted newborns or infants, often female, illegitimate or frail, would be left in public places or in the wilderness to die of exposure or be taken by passersby. This was used to control family size, manage poverty or handle birth defects.

When it comes to the unborn, there is often a wider ethical debate about when human life begins. This is in large part because society needs to be able to determine and justify at what point the rights outlined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights are afforded to a baby. As followers of Jesus, however, we take great assurance in the fact that God knitted us together in our mother's womb and that we are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:13). Jeremiah 1:5 says "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart". Job 10:11-12 and Isaiah 49:1 describe God as the creator who forms, clothes and even calls people from the womb. Looking at the life of John the Baptist, he leapt for joy in the womb, indicating that even unborn children can respond to the Holy Spirit! It could be said that people instinctively know that life begins in the womb, especially when a baby is wanted.

As we think about these issues, we also need to remember the grief for those parents unable to conceive, or for those who have lost their babies through miscarriages and stillbirth.
We also need to treat with compassion, dignity and respect, those who have had abortions or who find themselves in the difficult position of having an unwanted pregnancy with all the upheaval, uncertainty and isolation that can bring. Love motivates us to point those people to Jesus who died for them and loves them with an everlasting love. We are called to be those who help people find freedom from the guilt and shame they might be carrying, and know God's grace and mercy. It also helps us to bring hope into what might seem like a hopeless scenario and show people another way is possible.

God loves all people, from the most vulnerable to the most powerful, from the youngest to the eldest, from the unborn to the terminally ill. We need to remember that our life is a precious gift from God and that wherever we find ourselves in life, we deserve to be treated with dignity, respect and honour because we have been made in God's image. This is why at a fundamental level God commanded, "You shall not kill" in Exodus 20, the sixth of the ten commandments. When you read the Hebrew, this commandment is focussed on the intentional taking of innocent life. If we start to make exceptions to this commandment, we quickly end up in the deep waters of moral compromise and often are swept further out than we ever intended at first.

I know that many are concerned about the Crime and Policing bill being passed through the House of Lords which is expected to be voted on in March, an amendment of which decriminalises abortion up to birth (although the law still limits medical procedures to 24 weeks). I encourage us to pray about this and as we feel appropriate, to lobby the House of Lords.

I appreciate how difficult this area can be and the personal pain and issues it can bring up for us in all kinds of unexpected ways. Please feel free to contact me or one of the pastors if there is any way we can be praying for you or if you need to talk or have any questions.

With much love,

Mark

SUNDAY GATHERING | 10:30AM
Join us in person this Sunday as we continue our series 'Apprentices of the Kingdom' or join us online: https://youtu.be/9oF8qks5hgk

FINBERRY FOCUS
Launch team meeting | Sunday 8th March | 3pm-5pm
We are so excited to be launching into Finberry together as a church on Sunday 19th April! God has brought us this far and will continue to lead us into the next stages. I had never noticed that Jude intended to write a longer letter to the church he is addressing (we don't know exactly who they were but we know they were a predominantly Jewish congregation). In verse 3 he says 'although I was very eager to write to you about the salvation we share, I felt compelled to write and urge you to contend for the faith…' The situation the church found itself in meant that Jude needed to write more urgently to them to address the issues that were arising.

What were these issues? Corrupt teachers were infiltrating the church promoting false teaching, immorality, slandering other leaders (while boasting about themselves) and causing division. The church was in a perilous position and as you read the letter you see words such as 'condemnation', 'ungodly', immorality', 'perversion', 'darkness', 'punishment', 'slander', 'destroyed' - strong language and imagery from Sodom and Gommorah, perhaps confusing accounts of the death of Moses from extra-biblical sources that would have been familiar to the Jewish audience Jude is addressing, but all painting a picture of the spiritual free-fall the church found itself in.

But contrasting all this is the firm foundation of true faith in Jesus Christ which Jude wants to encourage believers in. The beginning and end are juxtaposed to the rest of the letter. It is as if Jude is reminding us that Jesus has the first and last word where His people are concerned and even if things feel fragile, uncertain or even chaotic in between, Jesus is building His church and the gates of Hades will not prevail against it.

Jude begins the letter reminding us that we are called, loved and kept.

To those who have been called, who are loved in God the Father and kept for Jesus Christ:

2 Mercy, peace and love be yours in abundance.

Such an important reminder for believers under trial, in the midst of temptations to compromise, with doubts and divisions being stirred up, that our security lies in God and what he has done - he has called us, we are loved in him and we are kept for Jesus. And there is a wonderful generosity to verse two… that in spite of the difficulties and the mess that the church finds itself in - mercy, peace and love be yours in abundance. Two verses overflowing with grace!

And in the same way that the letter begins with grace, it ends with grace. The closing doxology (or praise) says:

24 To him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy— 25 to the only God our Saviour be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen.

In other words, whatever is going on, God is able to keep you from stumbling, he will complete the work he has begun in you, he will present you before himself transformed into the likeness of Jesus - these present faults will not remain, weeping may last for the night but joy comes in the morning, this is who our God is and he is worthy of all praise!

So if life feels chaotic, uncertain or fragile, if darkness and doubt seem to have gotten the better of you, if things feel like they are breaking apart, remember that Jesus has the first and last word in your life, you are called, loved and kept and he will complete what he has begun in you. If there is any way I can be praying for you, please reply to this email.

PS If you haven't read Jude (at least not in a while), why not give it a read right now, it is only 25 verses long!

With much love,

Mark

SUNDAY GATHERING | 10:30AM
Join us in person this Sunday as we continue our series 'Apprentices of the Kingdom' or join us online: https://youtu.be/e7pZu8OTXjo

HOLIDAY CLUB | THANK YOU!
We had an incredible time at holiday club at the start of this week!
Our theme was 'Lost and Found' and we shared the story of the lost sheep, the lost coin and the prodigal son. In Luke 17:32 Jesus says, 'Remember Lot's wife.' If you don't know the story of Lot's wife here is a brief summary:

God decides to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah because the cities had become deeply corrupt and violent. Lot who is a relative of Abraham, is forewarned by angels that he and his family need to flee before it is destroyed or they will be destroyed too. After some convincing Lot and his family flee to a nearby village and true to His word, God destroys the two cities and Lot is saved. However, the family are warned not to look back and Lot's wife looks back as they flee and it says that she turned into a pillar of salt.

Lot's wife looked back at the life she was leaving behind, she was frozen – stuck between what God was calling her out of and what she couldn't quite let go of. When we focus on the past or what we have to let go of, thankfully we don't turn into pillars of salt! Sometimes God invites us into something new – a step of faith, a new season, a new way of living – but part of us clings to what is familiar, even if it wasn't good for us. Like Lot's wife, we can become rooted in the very place God is trying to rescue us from.

Jesus' warning isn't harsh; it's tender. It's His way of saying: Don't let your past have the final say. Don't let old patterns hold you when I'm leading you forward. Don't let yesterday steal the hope I have for tomorrow.

This week, ask the Lord:
'Is there anything I keep looking back to – anything I need to entrust to you so I can move freely into what's next?'

Lots of love,
Katie ?

SUNDAY GATHERING | 10:30AM
Join us in person this Sunday as we continue our series 'Apprentices of the Kingdom' or join us online: https://youtu.be/VBQyvvmr3oU

HOLIDAY CLUB | NEXT WEEK
Monday 16th Feb-Wednesday 18th Feb | 10am-12pm
Our kids holiday club is nearly here! In the midst of the despair, heartbreak and brokenness the writer makes this declaration of hope. Even though the nation were going through an incredibly difficult time, they were not consumed because of God's great love for them. That even though the exile happened, even though things did not go the way they should have, the writer declares that God's compassions never fail and are new every morning.

What's striking is how God's faithfulness is daily. It isn't dependent on yesterday going well, but freshly given today. We don't need to carry the weight of the week ahead or replay the failures of the past - today, God meets us with mercy that is enough for the day.

So wherever you find yourself this week, whether it has been a wonderful week or a week you are less than proud of, know that God's compassions are new every day and and great is His faithfulness!

Lots of love,

Katie

SUNDAY GATHERING 10:30AM Join us in person this Sunday as we continue our series 'Apprentices of the Kingdom' or join us online: https://youtu.be/ZE49FvcDWaI

PRAYER & FASTING | 5th - 25th January
As a church we have felt the call to consecrate ourselves to God (Joshua 3:5) as we begin the year. As we step into new things this year, there may naturally be some trepidation BUT we have a God who promises to stay close as we enlarge our comfort zone by pushing forward anyway. We received several prophetic words and scripture passages including Deut. 5:32, Psalms 1, 61 and 119:105. We were encouraged to keep going and trust in the Lord. He is our protector and provider, if God has called us into something, he has gone before us and will be with us. Do not turn to the right or the left as God has put forward his promises, so our part is to trust and obey. Come along next week as Katie will be leading us to soak in the word and wait on God together.

Our final week of prayer and fasting coincides with the Churches Together week of prayer and unity, so please do try to attend some of the prayer events happening that week at other Ashford churches (listed below). The final celebration prayer and worship event will be hosted here at New Wells Ashford, so please do come to that too.

'But you dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in God's love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life.' (Jude verses 20-21)
Much Love

Paula x

SUNDAY GATHERING 10:30AM Join us in person this Sunday as we continue our series 'Apprentices of the Kingdom' or join us online: https://youtu.be/Nr2Y2a96_lo

PRAYER & FASTING | 5th - 25th January
As a church we have felt the call to consecrate ourselves to God (Joshua 3:5) as we begin the year.

Dear church family,

I never knew that there are different themes to each week of advent! For this, the second week of advent, the theme is peace. In the Bible the word that is often associated with peace is 'Shalom' which holds an array of meanings. In the Bible it is used to mean, 'make good,' 'make full restitution' or to 'restore.' It also carries meaning of wholeness, wellbeing, completeness and tranquility. When I think of what peace means to me, it is a feeling that everything is at rest in my Spirit. Often that sense of peace is what helps me to discern what is of God and what is not. (e.g. when I walk in obedience to God I have a sense of peace in my Spirit and when I am disobedient that peace is no longer present.)

In Philippians 4 Paul writes, 'Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.'

This passage has three things I'd like to highlight:
1) We are encouraged to rejoice in the Lord always. Always means rejoicing when we feel like it & when we don't; when life is great and when it is falling apart around us. Why? Because God is worthy of our praise. Also, it is also good for us to lift our eyes above our situation and choose to see God at work in all of it and remind ourselves of His goodness - sometimes that can really help us out of a funk.
2) We are told to not be anxious but instead present our requests to God by prayer, petition and with thanksgiving. Sound advise!
3) And the peace of God, which is beyond what we can understand, will guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

I love this idea that peace is the thing that guards our hearts. The thing is with peace is that sometimes we can go through times in life that are absolutely nuts but still have peace. When we turn to God with our worries, concerns, heartache and whatever else we have going on and place it in His hands, we can trust that God is Sovereign and work it out for His glory and our good. As a result of trusting God with our worries, peace guards our heart because we know it is in God's hands and have 100% confidence that it will all work out because God is good and He loves us SO much! Life can throw at us a tonne of curveballs but we know God is still good, He loves us and if God is for us what more do we need!

Lots of love,
Katie

SUNDAY GATHERING 10:30AM Join us in person this Sunday for FANCY DRESS CHRISTINGLE! We are cheering Kelly on as she explores all that God has for her in this next season!

Finberry Update
Last night we announced that we will be launching a Finberry church plant in early 2026! God has been so faithful on this journey and we are trusting him with the next steps as well.
If you would like to be part of this team that is going to pioneer into Finberry, or even would just like to know some more information about it, please contact one of the team today and we would love to chat further with you!
We also shared that we are still facing a significant barrier with Finberry which is the cost of the venue, we remain steadfast in trusting God to provide us with all we need to enact his will. Please keep praying with us and if you would like to give a one off significant gift to help contribute towards the first years cost of church planting please do so!

Finance Update
We were so blessed this year to be able to invest in some major projects around our church like the heating in the main worship space and renovations to The Well. God has provided us with all we needed and we know he will continue to do that. The trustees have shared that for us to continue and expand what God is doing, our regular giving as a church needs to raise by about £5000 pm. Please be praying about what part God may be calling you to play in that.

Trustee Elections
Andy Boylan has been elected to become a trustee at New wells Ashford, he has a wealth of experience from the business world that he will be bringing to add to our faithful trustees. We also want to say a huge thank you to Tim Perks who has served as a trustee for many years, and will continue to be a blessing to all the other ministry areas that he impacts so deeply.

Treasurer Election
Josh Shanmugan has been elected to be the treasurer for our church. He is a phenomenal accountant and serves so faithfully in ways many of us will never see or understand! We are excited to have him officially onboard.

Governance
We also had updates from people about health and safety, safeguarding and data protection. We are extremely grateful to the people who carry these roles so diligently behind the scenes to keep us safe and allow us to continue to bless people through what we do.

SUNDAY GATHERING 10:30AM Join us in person this Sunday as we continue our series on the life of Elisha or join us online: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5wVEAN4czk

PRACTICAL FAITH | Young Adults | Sat 22nd Nov 6:30pm for 7pm start
The vision for these sessions is to equip the young adults at New Wells with the knowledge they need for a fruitful and fulfilling life with God beyond church. Not those who get everything right, or those who know all there is to know about the Bible but those who love him. What God wants from us above anything we can do or achieve, is relationship. He wants us to know His love for us and for us to love Him back.

I saw a beautiful post this week where a little girls shows Jesus her score on a test and she is also carrying a trophy, a piece of art, a medal and a backpack of 'good deeds' and she asks Jesus 'Lord, am I lovely.' Jesus replies 'Yes you are!' Then He takes her test, her trophy, medal and backpack, puts them on the floor and says to her 'Yes, you are.' This had quite a profound impact on me because I think we often see value in ourselves through the good deeds we do, the things we achieve that make us feel more positive about ourselves. But Jesus loves us and wants relationship with us without any of that stuff. If we had absolutely nothing to offer Him, He would still love and want us. His love is not dependent on us. How amazing is that!

My prayer for our church family is that before anything else we are known and seen as those who love Jesus and know we are loved by Him. Then out of that place of first and foremostly knowing we are loved, we walk in obedience to Jesus, honouring Him with how we live our lives. If you haven't already today or this week, take some time to tell Jesus how much you love Him

Lots of love,
Katie

SUNDAY GATHERING 10:30AM Join us in person this Sunday as we continue our series on the life of Elisha or join us online: https://youtu.be/Mea5_FhGLXc

AGM | THIS THURSDAY 7PM
Join us on Thursday 20th November for our Annual Gratitude Meeting where we celebrate the past year and make some key decisions. When silver is refined it is placed under intense fire and heat to bring out the impurities. This psalmist recognises that sometimes God tests and refines us. Sometimes God's best for us is allowing us to go through really tough seasons to burn out of us impurities and refine our character. The phrase I go back to a lot is that you can't control what happens to you but you can control how you react to it. We have choice in how we react to the times in our lives that feel like the deepest, darkest valley or like everything around us is on fire. Will we run away from God or run into His arms? Will we learn the lessons we need to learn or sweep our issues under the rug just for them to rear their ugly heads again later?

In tough seasons we learn a lot about ourselves. We learn the parts of ourselves that are unhealthy and need work and God invites us to address those issues with Him and allow Him to heal us so that we can better reflect our Saviour.

This passage starts in praise. The psalmist knows full well the difficulties and trials of being tested and refined, having burdens laid on their backs and having people ride over their heads and yet they call us to praise God. Why? Because no matter what we go through and what we face God is SO GOOD! He is a God who doesn't want us to stay broken and unhealthy, He desires so see us flourish.

The passage ends with, '...but you brought us to a place of abundance.' God's desire is not to break us but to bring us to a place of abundance - abundance of life, abundance of love and grace and mercy (and so on and so forth)!

Lots of love,

Katie

SUNDAY GATHERING 10:30AM Join us in person this Sunday as we continue our series on the life of Elisha or join us online: https://youtu.be/1k-6qX9_r14

FASTING & PRAYER FOR KELLY | Thursday 6th November & Power Hour 8pm
We are having a day of prayer and fasting for Kelly Carolan as we weigh her call to become a RLM (Recognised Local Minister). Our team handed out water, cheered on the runners and brought an amazing amount of energy and encouragement to everyone passing by. I participated in the race myself, and hearing the music and the cheers at the 7k mark, was exactly what I needed to keep going and it was such a great reminder of how powerful encouragement can be and what a difference it makes when people come to together to lift one another up.
It got me thinking of the verse in Hebrews 12:1-2, 'Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race market out for us. Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scoring its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.'
These verses remind us that although we will have moments of weariness, doubt or distraction, we are called to keep running – one step at a time with our eyes fixed on Jesus. He is our example, our strength and our finish line, the one who endured the cross so that we could share in HIS victory.
And as we run, we are not meant to do it alone. 'The great cloud of witnesses' surrounding us – are not only the believers that have gone before us, but it is also a call for us believers now to be encouraging one another. When we see someone struggling, we can run beside them, speak words of hope, and remind them that Gods grace is enough for every step.
This coming Saturday, we have Paula's ordination – so let's be cheering Paula on. Let's encourage and uphold her and her family in prayer, and celebrate with her as she takes another step on her path with God.
Finally, keep running and looking to Jesus. When others falter beside us – lets be their hype station. Let's encourage them and cheer them on as the finish line is worth every stride, and we run not for earthly applause, but for the joy set before us: eternal life with Christ.
Join us this Sunday as we dedicate Arthur Journeaux and Mark opens the Bible continuing our series on the life of Elisha or join us online: https://youtu.be/2SL3UNMMxKg

PAULA'S ORDINATION | SAT 18TH OCT 2PM Join us as we celebrate Paula's ordination together with a Saturday gathering at 2pm followed by an afternoon tea. What has struck me as I've been reading is how often David inquires of God. In 1 Samuel 23, David is told that the Philistines are attacking Keilah and rather than rushing off to the aid of Keilah, David asks the LORD, 'Shall I go and attack these Philistines?'. God tells him to go and attack the Philistines and save Keilah but David's men are afraid they say, 'Here in Judah we are afraid. How much more, then, if we go to Keilah against the Philistine forces!' David's response to this is going back to God and inquires again. God replies by telling David, 'Go down to Keilah, for I am going to give the Philistines into your hand.' Because David inquired of God he could go down to Keilah with confidence that God was going deliver the Philistines into their hands. He could encourage his men with this promise knowing, through experience, that God is faithful and is true to His word.

After David saves the town of Keilah, Saul decides to take this as a sign that God had delivered David into his hands and heads to Keilah with all his forces to besiege David and his men. David hears of all this and goes straight to God asking whether the town will surrender him to which God tells him that they will. Which is rubbish considering David literally just saved them from the Philistines! So, David moves on from Keilah and is able to evade capture.

There are two things that stick out to me from this story and the other stories of David inquiring of God:

1. We can go to God about everything. I think God loves it when we go to him with any decision we are making. We can seek His opinion about every little thing in our life and give him space to speak into it. I know in my own life when I know something has God's stamp of approval I have been able to do terrifying things because I have confidence that God is in it and I know He wants the absolute best for me. The more we inquire of God the more it becomes a habit to prioritise His voice in our decisions. As followers of Jesus, His voice is the most important voice in our lives and it is our calling to listen to His leading and go where He calls us.

2. Walking in obedience leads to victory! David inquired of God and was able to save a town from the Philistines. David's men were unsure and afraid yet because God said they would win they went on ahead and saw a victory. God often leads us on paths that seem uncertain and frightening yet if God is with us we will see triumph! We need to be bold and if God has told us to do something, we do it, even if we are absolutely petrified. Obedience does not require us feeling amazing about it, obedience is saying yes to God no matter what. When I think about the future of New Wells, I know that God has amazing things ahead of us that may require us doing things that scare us. But if we know He is in it, we can be obedient and be expectant on the miracles and wonders we will see!

'Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the LORD will do amazing things among you!' Joshua 3:5
Lots of love,
Katie

SUNDAY this week looks different to our usual Sundays. They went and found a land that was fruitful, flowing with milk and honey - just as God had promised, but they also saw the challenges that lay ahead - the tribes who lived there. Some looked to the future with fear - all they could see were the challenges, and as they looked at them, the challenges appeared bigger than they were - at the end of Numbers 13 they started spreading word - "The land we explored devours those living in it. All the people we saw there are of great size. We saw the Nephilim there… we seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes…"

The people around became fearful too as they heard this - fear can be contagious. But others looked to the future with faith - they knew what God had promised. Caleb said, "We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it." When the Israelites were weeping and grumbling, Joshua and Caleb tore their clothes and said: "The land we passed through and explored is exceedingly good. If the Lord is pleased with us, he will lead us into that land, a land flowing with milk and honey, and will give it to us. Only do not rebel against the Lord. And do not be afraid of the people of the land, because we will devour them. Their protection is gone, but the Lord is with us. Do not be afraid of them."

As Numbers 14 continues we see this battle between fear and faith continue. Sometimes this can be a battle within us as we look to the future. Will we look through the eyes of fear or faith? Because of Joshua and Caleb's faith, they could enter into the promises of God, they were able to enter the land while the rest of their generation could not. It is by faith that we become all God has called us to be.

Fast-forward to the book of Joshua, after the death of Moses, and we see God confirm the calling on Joshua's life to lead the people into the promised land. God says to him, "As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave nor forsake you. Be strong and courageous…" In fact, God repeats the command, "Be strong and courageous" three times and says, "The Lord your God will be with you wherever you go" God chose Joshua because of his faith, because he did not shrink back all those years before - he trusted God. And now as Joshua is about to embark on the biggest challenge of his life, God reminds him who he is, who he has been called to be - strong and courageous, and God reminds him that he is with him wherever he goes.

As the people are preparing to enter the promised land, Joshua tells them: "Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do great things among you." Prepare yourselves, prepare your hearts, set yourselves apart for God and God alone. This is a significant moment in history, a time where the promises of God are being fulfilled and a new chapter is beginning.

The same feels true for us. God has taken us on a journey, there are things God has spoken over the churches in Willesborough and Brabourne throughout the years, the decades and probably long before any of us can remember, that are beginning to be fulfilled. There is a new chapter in our shared history that is beginning where we want to step into the promises of God and take hold of all he has called us to, looking to the future with faith.

As we prepare we are setting aside time to worship, pray and fast, starting tonight at 7pm and continuing until Saturday at 7pm. We are calling everyone of every age to participate across our church family, whether you have been coming for weeks or decades, whether you can stay for 10minutes or 10hours, we want to do this together. Tonight we will be starting at 7pm with more worship as we begin our time. The space is set up to be comfortable and warm and will be open through the night.
